Aims and Summary

The module aims to provide an overview of theoretical perspectives in politics, culture and religion. It ensure students develop their knowledge and understanding of current key concepts and issues in the management of political philosophy. Through weekly readings of extracts of writings from Ancient Greece to the 21st century as well as the reading of  a full-length recently published book (last 15 years), it will ensure that students develop their knowledge and understanding of key concepts and issues in the management of political philosophy.  The students will develop their capacities to contrast ancient and modern political philosophies and to contrast the management of citizens with the management of corporate employees.

Intended Module Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module, the student should be able to:

  1. Present and criticize the major contributions of political thinkers to the evolution of political thought from the Ancient Greeks to the end of the 19th century.
  2. Present and evaluate the major contributions of Anglo-American political philosophers since the end of the Second World War.
  3. Understand the theoretical contribution made in a book by a political philosopher in the last 15 years.
  4. Apply the various philosophical contributions studied to the analysis of contemporary challenges.
