Aims and Summary

The aim of this module is to introduce students to the nature and spatial outcome of global processes in the human environment. The module will provide an understanding and contributions from scholars in the areas of demography, resource management, culture, economic systems and geopolitics. Students will be able to develop and link their awareness of various fields of human geography specifically studied in sustainable development and globalisation.

Specifically, the module emphasizes the interplay of human geography principles with the overarching themes of sustainable development and globalisation. As a result, students will not only develop a more profound grasp of these complex dynamics but also learn to critically analyze and apply their knowledge to address the real-world challenges and opportunities associated with contemporary global issues.

Intended Module Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module, the student should be able to:

  1. Explain the main features of demographic, resource and cultural geographical analysis, with particular reference to their application to sustainable development.
  2. Understand the historical evolution, principal features, and current challenges of globalization.
  3. Identify and apply the main features of economic and political geography, in particular in relation to globalization.

Apply appropriate aspects of geographical analysis to a specific selected topic.
