Aims and Summary

The aim of this module is to provide students with project and event management experience in the real world. The emphasis is on developing the students’ creative skills by encouraging innovation and concept development for a real event. This module will also provide them with the opportunity to apply leadership and decision-making skills that build on project and event management knowledge gained from previous experience.

This module further introduces students to the fundamental principles of management with relation to the events industry. Students are encouraged to study and learn about the management disciplines and techniques needed to manage simple projects effectively. This will be achieved using a variety of examples to develop the students’ practical skills related to research, planning, co-ordinating and evaluating an event. The relevant literature is explored, but with a consistent view of the importance of applying theory and planning in a practical business context.

Intended Module Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module, the student should be able to:

  1. Critically analyse and determine the necessary tools and techniques to research, plan, co- ordinate and execute an
  2. Critically evaluate and collaborate with team members, volunteers, suppliers and external contacts.
  3. Critically apply business, team management and negotiating skills to the organisation and management of a creative
  4. Critically reflect on the experience learnt throughout the process and suggest how these will be used to facilitate their future career development
