Aims and Summary

The aim of this foundational module is to introduce students to recording financial transactions, adjusting entries, and preparing financial reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Additionally, the course touches on the significance of financial data in decision-making processes for both internal and external stakeholders. By the end of the course, students will possess the skills to comprehend financial statements, assess an organization’s financial health, and lay a strong foundation for more advanced accounting studies.

The curriculum covers core concepts and methodologies in financial accounting, enabling students to interpret, evaluate, and prepare financial statements. Key subjects include the accounting cycle, double-entry bookkeeping, income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. By course completion, students will be adept at comprehending financial statements, assessing an organization’s fiscal well-being, and laying a robust groundwork for more advanced accounting studies such as Management Accounting and Finance modules.

On completion of this module, the student should be able to:
